The Boat

Galene is a Westerly Corsair built in 1984 and one of a select few ketches built. As a centre cockpit ketch she is ideal for our cruising needs, big enough to crruise and live aboard for 2 but small enough to be easily handled.

Since we have owned her we have refitted her for long term cruising, not only are we adding the technical equipment we feel we require but have also added some creature comforts to make her feel like home, for our home is what she will be.

Major additions include a holding tank, increasing the battery capacity, covering the coachroof with solar panels, a keel cooled fridge, some new instruments including a forward looking sonar and a Hydrovane self steering unit with it's own tiller pilot.

Comfort includes a new cooker, curtains and upholstery, salt water galley tap off the engine intake, Seagull water filter which makes the water taste like bottled water and a custom made Bimini. Galene already had a cockpit tent which will keep us shaded from the sun and also keep the rain out. We have added additional opening portlights to increase ventilation below. Other than that she is pretty much as she was built.
